Well, it’s been a busy summer. I’ve been working my job at the theatre company all summer. I finally made it to the top of the pile, head stage manager. Which really is only a title, for I did nothing different from last year. But you better believe I made a deal out of it in a stupid attempt to impress. Oh, such a loser.
When I wasn’t doing something with the company like working, hanging out, drinking, etc I was working on having my own art exhibit. I was approached by youth ventures, an organization in my town to do it for the summer. And in the beginning, there was suppose to be other artists doing it with me. Unfortunately, the other young artist in my town didn’t feel up to it, so then there was just me.
So I scrambled to make art in my spare time, and to try and find a space for my art exhibition. Another pain that was. Seeing how my hometown does not have space for such things, I had to improvise. I found one cool spot, but they wanted to charge admission to the art show. Unless you’re a big art museum, charging admission ensures that no one shows up at all.
So I found another spot, went to book it and was told to see someone else. They of course told me to see someone else. Getting the good ol’ bureaucratic run-around. So after much red tape and such, I finally got my space.
I then got some food together, fruit, veggies, cheese and meat, some dips, and all your typical art snacks and had the show.
I had the show August 16th, from 5:30pm to 9pm. I think the show went well, not as well as I wanted but still good. I had about 60+ people show up during the night. I wished it was more. I did manage to sell some of my pieces, so that was good. I got interviewed by my local television station, which now has made me a local celebrity. AKA 6 people have come up to me and said they saw me.
My exhibit also got me nominated for an award by Youth Ventures, which I then won. It was for highest artistic achievement. Now mind you, I was the only one eligible, so I don’t see a big deal there.
An that was that, I’ve had my first solo exhibition. Quite a learning experience.
My job has since ended, and got my exhibit over with, so now I’m trying to find something else to do now. I have been thinking of trying to get a short film made on my “Date with a Loaf of Bread” story. Take a while, but not impossible. That will probably be a next summer thing though. So I guess I’m just waiting for school now to begin.
